Benny Hinn, Paula White, and the National Enquirer
It's what Benny and Paula didn't say that's so disturbing

The August 2, 2010 edition of the NATIONAL ENQUIRER hit the stands charging, among other things, that Benny Hinn had been "Caught In Torrid Affair!"

Along with the attention-grabbing headline, the supermarket tabloid promised to reveal the "identity of Hinn's lover," as well as "steamy pictures" of Hinn and his lover's "sexy Rome tryst."

Brimming with captivating words such as "shocking" and "blockbuster," the article identified Benny Hinn's "lover" as Paula White, senior pastor of Church Without Walls in Tampa, Florida.

To those who haven't seen the article, there were no "steamy pictures," and the terms "Torrid Affair" and "sexy Rome trist" were totally uncalled for.

Frankly, much of the article wasn't worth the fish-wrap it was printed on.

However, in the midst of the usual tabloid hype and hoopla, the two-page article captured what appears to be two photos of Benny Hinn and Paula White, as they reportedly strolled the streets of Rome, Italy.

The article dates the photos for July 13, 2010. While there was nothing "steamy" about the photos, they did capture what appears to be Benny Hinn and Paula White walking and holding hands.

To say or not to say, that is the problem

Not surprisingly, on July 24 Benny Hinn issued a statement on his website titled, "Pastor Benny Responds to False and Misleading News Reports"  ( http://www.bennyhinn.org/articles/articledesc.cfm?id=7088 ).

Although Hinn's statement mysteriously disappeared, it is on file with Christian Research Service and other discernment ministries.

Following in Benny Hinn's ink-prints, Paula White issued a statement on her website titled, "Pastor Paula Responds To False And Misleading Article"  ( http://www.paulawhite.org/pages/misleading_article_response ).

Both statements cited the NATIONAL ENQUIRER as their cause for alarm. And while both statements vehemently deny any wrongdoing, both were very similar in their content.

Hinn and White said a mouthful in their statements. Yet, it is what Hinn and White didn't say that is so disturbing.

Case in point: the NATIONAL ENQUIRER article reported in part that:

  • Benny Hinn "sneaked off" with Paula White for a "romantic trip to Rome."

  • Benny Hinn and Paula White were photographed holding hands, as they walked out of the "five-star Hotel Hassler" and down a street.

  • On July 13, Benny Hinn checked himself into a "presidential suite under a false name."

  • Benny and Suzanne Hinn are separated, but are not divorced.

  • Benny Hinn and Paula White "spent three nights" at the Hotel Hassler, where "Hinn checked in as David Salomon."

  • While in Rome, Italy, Benny Hinn "visited the Vatican to try to meet with Catholic officials.

Returning to Benny Hinn and Paula White's statements, both denied any sexual misconduct. However, neither Hinn or White denied the authenticity of the two photos, which clearly capture them holding hands.

Again, it is what Hinn and White didn't say in their statements that is so disturbing.

As of this writing, and according to the Superior Court of Orange County, California, Benny and Suzanne Hinn are still married. And, no future hearing date has been scheduled (Case #10D000898, Hinn v Hinn, Family Law,

https://ocapps.occourts.org/FamLawWebv2/Home.do ).

Over the years, both Benny Hinn and Paula White have established a proven track-record of false teachings and controversy. Yet, both have managed to retain a following, live a life of luxury, and wiggle their way out of controversy after controversy.

It will be interesting to see how they wiggle their way out of this controversy.

For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror; for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was (James 1:23-24).
