Christian Research Service CONTACT ALERT: Christianity Today Compromises the Faith, Promotes Book Review by Dedicated Mormon. First, it was the book review. Now it's the book itself. What's next?
Letters to Robert Millet: Robert Millet's BYU Bio clearly states that he "Now holds a joint appointment with Church Public Affairs (Manager of Outreach and Interfaith Relations" ( www.tre.byu.edu/FacWebs/millet.htm ). But in a return e-mail, Millet says that position doesn't exist. Hmmm.
Robert Millet shares how to handle anti-Mormon criticism and questions: (Robert Millet video presentation, 3/11/04). Amidst all the smiles, ooohs, ahhhs and hooplah surrounding one of Mormonism's top defenders, Millet spends a good deal of time teaching Mormon missionaries and church members the art of rescuing poor deceived Christians from their own corrupt religion, and defending Mormonism--a religion that was founded by a man with a fertile, but warped imagination--who actually believed he would become a god someday.
Christianbook.com Compromises the Faith: In spite of numerous complaints from concerned Christians; in spite of the phone calls and irrefutable documentation, and in spite of the truth of God's word--which clearly warns against advocating non-Christian materials--Christianbook.com makes excuses and decides it is in their best interest to advertise, promote and offer for sale A Different Jesus?.
Interview with Craig Hazen: According to Biola University's introduction to Christian Apologetics, "Christian Apologetics is an essential interdisciplinary field of study that has as its goal the defense of the great truths of the Christian faith. Indeed, the Apostle Peter thought it important enough to exhort all believers to be prepared always to give a defense (apologian) to everyone who asks about the hope that we have in Christ (1 Peter 3:15). This new degree program is designed to help students from all academic backgrounds to contend for the faith" ( http://www.biola.edu/academics/scs/apologetics/intro.cfm ).
Note the words, "defense of the great truths of the Christian faith" and "contend for the faith."
In 2004 during a radio interview, Craig Hazen stated that "I actually believe that Mormonism is a tremendous achievement of the devil! You know, sometimes the devil is very clever about dancing right on the edge of what appears to be Christian. He's most effective in doing that. We need to be aware of that." However, in 2005, Hazen compromised big-time, played nicer than God, and gave a glowing endorsement of Robert Millet's book, A Different Jesus? The Christ of the Latter-Day Saints!
How is it possible to "contend for the faith" and endorse a book written by a cultist that defends a cult that is based on a Jesus that never existed in the first place?! Hazen's endorsement is a kick-in-the-pants to sincere apologists and cult-evangelists worldwide, and a shot-in-the-arm to Mormonism's agenda to be recognized as Christian.
And Hazen is the "Director of M.A. Program in Christian Apologetics" at Biola University? Think about it.
A Different Jesus?: Detailed book review by Todd Wood.
Letters to EMNR: Welcome to Compromise 101. In May 2005, two letters were written to the president of the Evangelical Ministries to New Religions (James Bjornstad), concerning Craig Hazen's endorsement of Robert Millet's book, A Different Jesus? The letters were also provided to both the EMNR Board of Directors and numerous members. Yet, most of the EMNR board and its membership sit back, yawn, twiddle their thumbs and act as if it's no big deal. Actions speak louder than words. In this case, lack of action from some of the EMNR members caused the removal of their websites from the Christian Research Service Recommended Websites page.
Letters to Mardel Christian Bookstores: This is another sad situation of a Christian bookstore promoting a non-Christian book, and a clear-cut example of Don't confuse me with the facts, my mind is made up. Sometimes, no reply is an answer in itself.
When professing Christians fail dismally to stand for truth and defend the faith, but jump at the opportunity to promote a book written by a cultist that mocks and ridicules Jesus Christ and denies the truth of His word, they lean to their own understanding, cause division, associate with false teachers, endanger the spiritual welfare of the believer, doom the unsaved to eternal damnation, call evil good, advocate a false doctrine, contribute to the apostasy of the church, and need to repent of their sins.
They have lost their fear of God and His coming judgement.
Therefore, you shall keep the commandments of the LORD your God, to walk in His ways and to fear Him (Deuteronomy 8:6).
My son, fear the LORD and the king; Do not associate with those who are given to change, For their calamity will rise suddenly, And who knows the ruin that comes from both of them? (Proverbs 24:21-22)
Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and turn away from evil (Proverbs 3:5-7).
If anyone advocates a different doctrine and does not agree with sound words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ, and with the doctrine conforming to godliness, he is conceited and understands nothing; but he has a morbid interest in controversial questions and disputes about words, out of which arise envy, strife, abusive language, evil suspicions, and constant friction between men of depraved mind and deprived of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain (1 Timothy 6:3-5).
Now I urge you, brethren, keep your eye on those who cause dissensions and hindrances contrary to the teaching which you learned, and turn away from them. For such men are slaves, not of our Lord Christ but of their own appetites; and by their smooth and flattering speech they deceive the hearts of the unsuspecting (Romans 16:17-18).
But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you shut off the kingdom of heaven from people; for you do not enter in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in (Matthew 23:13).
Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap (Galatians 6:7).
Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness; who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter! Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and clever in their own sight! (Isaiah 5:20-21)
Sincerely in Christ,
