Comments in response to The Christian Post article: ‘Evangelical Defends Decision to Speak at Mormon Tabernacle’
December 28, 2004
For most of the apologetic and discernment ministries that I have been in contact with, the issue was not Ravi going to Salt Lake City and speaking to the Mormon leadership and mostly Evangelical crowd that came to see and hear him. The issue is more subtle and many have not even realized the change that has come into the evangelical circles and affected a paradigm shift in how we present the gospel to the unbelieving world. This was brought out clearly in Richard Mouw's statement preceding Ravi that we even have to apologize for the gospel itself.
Most of Ravi's critics were trying to understand how an apologist would no longer act as an apologist and confront Richard Mouw for his undermining many years of planting seeds successfully, by the way, into the Mormon Church, by such men as Dr. Walter Martin and Dave Hunt. There are many testimonies of men and women that have come out of the LDS church as a result of the gospel being presented without shame, and becoming strong disciples for Christ. If one would take a trip and visit many of the Evangelical churches that happen to be located in Utah, one will find that most of the congregants are former Mormons.
The real picture, if one looks just below the surface and will do a little research into the situation, is the LDS church is using this platform for the benefit of the LDS, in an ecumenical sense, trying to gain acceptance within the Christian church to become just another denomination even as the Worldwide Church of God has done in recent years. This can and will only happen as we compromise our stand for Christ and the Word of God and I do see this happening.
