Update on Robert Millet and BYU's Outreach and Interfaith Relations (original e-mails on file)

In her January 5, 2004 article, "BYU professor builds friendships with leaders of other faiths," Jessica Price, Staff Writer for BYU NewsNet wrote in part that:

"Robert Millet's duties will expand with his new position as Richard L. Evans Professor of Religious Understanding at BYU. His responsibilities now include manager of Outreach and Interfaith for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints public affairs office" ( http://newsnet.byu.edu/story.cfm/47413 ).

On March 15, 2005, Bud Press wrote the following to Robert Millet:

Prof. Robert Millet, Manager
Outreach and Interfaith Relations
Brigham Young University
(801) 422-7042

Dear Robert:

This is a follow up to my call to BYU yesterday. I have tried unsuccessfully to find specific information pertaining to BYU's Outreach and Interfaith Relations, in particular, it's purpose and goals for the future.

The individuals I spoke to referred me to you, with the hope you would provide the information.

Thank you, Robert. I look forward to your reply.

Sincerely,
Bud Press

The same day (March 15) Millet replied with:

BYU does not have an official outreach and interfaith relations department. I hold a Richard L. Evans Professorship for Religious Understanding at BYU, and some of my time is devoted to working with other faiths. But there is no designated BYU organization or entity of that type.

On March 16, 2005 Bud Press wrote Millet again with the following:

Dear Robert:

Thank you for your prompt reply to my March 15 letter. I have an additional question please.

Your dialogues with Greg Johnson take you into various Christian churches, such as Baptist, non-denominational, etc. As a result of your testimony during the presentations, are you pleased to learn that people are being converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints?

Sincerely,

Bud

As of this writing, there has been no reply. Again, according to Millet's current BYU Bio, he "Now holds a joint appointment with Church Public Affairs (Manager of Outreach and Interfaith Relations" ( www.tre.byu.edu/FacWebs/millet.htm ).

Apparently, Millet has forgotten the above BYU NewsNet article or, what is stated in his BYU Bio...or both.
