According to the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina (BSCNC), the Wired2Grow Conference, slated for October 16, 2007, is a "premiere one-day conference for church leaders," which "promises to be another great experience for those who are serious about engaging fresh ideas that lead to new ministry action and produce kingdom fruit" ( http://www.wired2grow.com/ ).
The conference, sponsored by the Congregational Services and Missions Growth Evangelism Group of the BSCNC, included Rick McKinley (pastor of Imago Dei Community in Portland, OR, and Emerging Church consultant), and Emerging Church leader, Doug Pagitt (pastor of Solomon's Porch in Minneapolis, MN).
But according to information obtained today from the BSCNC's public relations director, Doug Baker, Doug Pagitt has been dropped from the conference.
During an over-the-phone conversation with Baker, Christian Research Service was told that information concerning Pagitt's views on "homosexuality, Christology, [and] the innerancy of Scripture" had been provided to the BSCNC after the initial invitation was extended to Pagitt.
With the information in hand, Baker said Pagitt's views were then analyzed and examined by the BSCNC. Afterwards, Baker said the BSCNC called Pagitt and questioned him on his views.
Doug Pagitt "confirmed our initial analysis," Baker stated. Baker further stated that Pagitt's views "would lay outside" the "confessional boundaries" of North Carolina Southern Baptist churches.
