National Charity Pulls-Out of Porn Laden Convention
Tucson, AZ - The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) has refused to participate in a comic book convention featuring numerous porn stars as "Media Guests.”
"We have instructed the people running the Motor City Comics Convention in Novi, MI this weekend to take MDA's name off of all materials and the event’s web site," said MDA's Director of Field organization, David Eppihimer. "MDA has also declined participation in the art auction and all other events these people conduct.”
"The MDA's quick decision to pull-out of an event that openly promotes porn stars demonstrates their continuous dedication to children and family values,” said Bud Press. “It's obvious that the MDA is more concerned with their good reputation than the money."
Press has spent the last two years researching the infiltration of pornography into the toy, hobby, and comic book industries which is, according to Press, “the very core of childhood."
“By including porn stars and pornographic materials at an event that openly welcomes children,” said Press, "many comic conventions have lowered their standards and set a dangerous trend that is spreading nationwide.”
"This trend is a slap-in-the-face to family values and our culture,” Press said. "Since porn is promoted as innocent and educational, many convention promoters have no problem with it being displayed out in the open in the midst of children.”
When asked where the porn stars would be during the Motor City Comic Con., an organizer of the event, Gary Bishop, stated the “Models" would be “kept in one general area together," but not in an "enclosed room" away from children. "Bishop stated that the 'Models' would not be displaying 'explicit material,’” said Press.
"The purpose behind porn stars at comic conventions is a last-ditch effort to revive a dying industry,” Press said. '"They promote themselves by autographing pictures and selling videos. You won't see any Girl Scout cookies at their tables."
Press, along with Pro-Family groups such as the American Family Association, applauds MDA's decision. "MDA has set precedence for other charities to follow,” said Press, “and I commend them for their courage and concern."
