Pastor David Jeremiah recently worked with JesusCalling.com to produce a podcast titled, Keeping Hope In A Darkened World. In addition to promoting his new book, the pastor also promoted Sarah Young, the author of the Jesus Calling books, studies, devotionals, calendars, and coloring book. The transcript of the interview regarding his admiration for the multi-million dollar Jesus Calling empire is as follows:
Narrator: “As a pastor and a teacher, Dr. Jeremiah advocates daily prayer and scripture reading. He appreciates how Sarah Young has helped many with their prayer lives through the words of Jesus Calling.”
Dr. Jeremiah: “When I read Sarah’s work, it’s pretty obvious to me why it’s been so highly regarded and received. She makes prayer very personal. Sometimes prayer isn’t personal, sometimes prayer can be very cold and empty. Maybe that’s why a lot of people have a hard time sustaining any kind of a prayer ministry. What Sarah has done has made it possible for people to say, “I talked to God today…I communicated with my Father.” That’s what prayer is supposed to be and she has moved the ball down the field quite aggressively in that direction.”
You may be asking yourself, “Is it a problem for fans of Jeremiah that he appears on the Jesus Calling site to promote his book? Isn’t this just ‘guilt by association?'” Yes and no. Meaning, yes, it is a problem, and no, it’s not a matter of guilt by association. You see, Jeremiah doesn’t just accidentally appear on a stage with some of the most ferocious wolves and false teachers of the day. He actually teams up with them, telling his followers that these folks are perfectly find [sic] to follow, listen to and/or read.
